چکیده
Teleneurology Teleneurology refers to the transfer of medical information from one site to another, using information and communications technology (ICT) for the management of neurological disorders. In this chapter, we discuss the rationale behind using te-leneurology in different parts of the world, review work done in this field, and describe the various barriers affecting its widespread use. In a survey performed in 2006, the World Health Organization/World Federation of Neurology Atlas of Country Resources for Neurological Disorders showed inadequate resources for neurological disorders around the world. The survey included 109 countries and more than 90 % of the world population. The survey showed disparities in access to neurology care, especially affecting low-income and developing countries [15]. Neurological and mental health disorders also have broader economic consequences. The cumulative global impact in terms of lost economic output from these disorders will amount to US$ 16.3 trillion between 2011 and 2030 according to the World Health Organization [39]. The shortage of neurological

In 2013, Dall et al. projected that by 2025, the societal need for neurologists will exceed availability by 19%. This number failed to account for the disproportionate number of neurologists practicing in urban and academic centers, likely underestimating the gap in rural populations. In a recent effort to improve access to neurologic services in these areas, telestroke and teleneurology networ...

BACKGROUND The use of two-way audio-visual technology for delivery of acute stroke is supported by a well established literature base. The use of telemedicine for general neurologic consultation has been reported across most subspecialties within the field, but a comprehensive systematic review of these reports is lacking. PURPOSE To conduct a systematic review of the published literature on ...
